On July 14, 2025, the “2025 Discover at HUST—Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Summer Camp” kicked off in Conference Room S311 of the Clean Energy Building. Attending the opening ceremony were Prof.Wen Jinyu, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Ms. Zhao Xiaofeng, Vice Dean of School of International Education, HUST; Mr. Han Jing, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs, HUST; Ms. Fan Xiaohong, Deputy Director of Training Office of Graduate School, HUST; Prof. Luo Xiaobing, Chinese Dean of ICARE, HUST; Prof.Michel Farine, European Dean of ICARE, HUST; Prof. Fabrizio Dughiero, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, UNIPD; Prof.Lucia Nicola, Coordinator of the Internalization of DII, UNIPD; and Dr. Zou Mingqing, Vice Dean of the ICARE, HUST. The opening ceremony was hosted by Yong Zong Xin, an international student of ICARE.

Prof. Wen Jinyu extended a welcome to nearly 50 outstanding students from around the world and delegation members from partner universities including the University of Padova (Italy) and the National Technical University of Athens (Greece). He stated that Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as a renowned university in China, boasts a comprehensive range of disciplines, strong scientific research capabilities, and extensive international cooperation. He emphasized that the “Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Summer Camp”, hosted by China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy on this occasion, holds great significance for jointly addressing global challenges such as energy and climate issues, and for conducting practical cooperation in cross-border collaboration and innovation. He earnestly encouraged the campers to use this platform to exchange ideas, enhance friendships, and jointly contribute their wisdom and efforts to the sustainable development of the clean and renewable energy sector.

Prof. Fabrizio Dughiero pointed out that the Department of Industrial Engineering UNIPD had recently signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with ICARE. Four students from his school are participating in this summer camp, which is only the starting point of their cooperation. Next year, a number of professors will go to ICARE to give lectures, further deepening the cooperation. He stated that Chinese and international teachers and students participating in this summer camp will jointly explore the progress of clean energy, visit leading enterprises, and experience Chinese culture, noting that the program features both an international perspective and forward-looking nature. He encouraged the campers to make full use of this opportunity, challenge themselves, build connections, and expressed his expectation to work together to create more possibilities and jointly open a more splendid chapter.

Prof. Luo Xiaobing gave a detailed introduction to ICARE’s operation, its international talent development system, distinctive training features, as well as the development plan and future vision. He emphasized that ICARE will adopt an open and inclusive attitude to welcome outstanding students from all over the world to study and exchange ideas here. The institute will strive to become a highland for talent cultivation, a research and innovation center, and an international cooperation and exchange platform in the global clean energy field, making greater contributions to promoting the development of the global clean energy cause.

Finally, ZOI Kalliopi Karali, student representative from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, expressed her expectations for this summer camp.

As the only Sino-foreign cooperative education institution of Huazhong University of Science& Technology, China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) has always been a pioneer in promoting international cooperation at our university. Launched in 2013, the ICARE International Summer Camp initially hosted five students from the University of Oxford for research internships, and has now developed into a world-renowned program. Over the past decade, ICARE has been awarded the “Oxford Gold Standard Internship Host” title by the University of Oxford five times. With the theme of “Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Summer Camp”, this summer camp provides a unique international platform for academic exchanges, cultural experiences and innovative thinking in the field of clean energy.
