Research interests

My research to date has focused on the interaction of environmental exposures (metals, nutrients) and genetic factors (genetics, epigenetics) on the risk of incident cardiovascular disease. I have investigated the associations of metal exposures with cardiovascular disease and its related traits in populations with different genetic backgrounds based on the gene-environment interaction method. Furthermore, I have investigated how metal exposures affect the occurrence and development of cardiovascular disease by changing the level of DNA methylation and gene expression in the body. I also have interests in the role and underlying mechanisms of the one-carbon metabolic pathway in the development of cardiovascular diseases. I have also worked on the inference of causal associations through Mendelian randomization using in-house or public gene database.

Career objectives

· Produce high quality publishable research which furthers the knowledge and understanding of the influence of the interaction between environmental factors and genetic factors on the occurrence and development of cardiovascular disease

· Elucidate the role and potential mechanism of DNA methylation in the occurrence of cardiovascular disease caused by environmental exposure, providing promising intervention targets for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease

· Active teaching commitments in the fields of occupational health, environmental health, analytical chemistry, and epidemiology

· Disseminating research findings via academic publications and presentations to both academic and public audiences
