On October 22, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) co-hosted the HUST-MPI Graduate Student Symposium with the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P). Top scholars and young students from both countries gathered together to broaden their research horizons through cross-cultural academic exchanges and conduct in-depth deliberations on cutting-edge research directions including nanomaterials, biomedicine and energy chemistry.
The opening ceremony of the symposium was held in the Zhuoming Lecture Hall of West No.1 Building on the morning of the 22nd, presided over by Yuzhou Wu, Vice Dean of SCCE at HUST. Bien Tan, Dean of SCCE, Wei Yan, Director of the Admissions and International Cooperation Office of the School of International Education of HUST, Tanja Weil, Director of MPI-P, and Qiang Zhao, another Vice Dean of SCCE, delivered speeches respectively at the ceremony.
In the plenary lecture session, Professor David Ng and Professor Yingke Wu from MPI-P, as well as Professor Lianbin Zhang and Professor Xiaofan Ji from HUST, successively delivered keynote reports on relevant research frontiers, introducing their respective academic progress and the latest developments in scientific research. Faculty and students in attendance engaged in active interactions, making the venue a lively space with enthusiastic discussions.
In the afternoon, students from the two institutions presented their research progress in parallel sessions, showcasing advanced academic achievements in their respective research fields from diverse perspectives. This further broadened their academic horizons, deepened interdisciplinary exchanges, and laid a solid foundation for future scientific research cooperation.
Featuring full-process academic interactions and cross-cultural scientific research exchanges, this symposium achieved all-dimensional coverage ranging from expert academic sharing to student achievement presentations. Going forward, SCCE of HUST and MPI-P will continue to deepen collaboration in such areas as joint graduate training and collaborative research on scientific projects, and work together to set a benchmark for international scientific research cooperation.
